3M had lots of fun during World Book Week, they explored and created story characters for themselves. They really enjoyed their school day dressed up as their characters from different story books. I was very impressed with all of the children's efforts for this special day.
Last Friday the children had the great opportunity to learn more about Irish culture as Saint Patrick's Day was celebrated on Saturday 17th March. As you all know Ireland is my native country and I had the pleasure to visit Ireland on this special day last weekend and celebrate it in Dublin which was fantastic! Before I left for Ireland I taught a mini lesson about why this day was celebrated and the different symbols associated with this celebration. The children learned about the story of Saint Patrick, how he spreaded Christianity throughout Ireland by using the shamrock.
The children learned about the different ways people celebrate Saint Patrick on that special day in Ireland, they had plenty of exercise doing some Irish dancing to the famous Riverdance song. It was lots of fun! They also learned some Gaelic words, I'm sure if you ask them they will tell you some, I think they should remember the Gaelic word for 'Goodbye'. The children really enjoyed learning more about my culture and it was a great way to start the Saint Patrick's celebrations with the children.
