Shadow Puppets

In class we have been investigating which materials are the best for making shadow puppets. We took various materials and shone a torch into them to see if a shadow appeared. We noticed that some materials were transparent, others were translucent and some were opaque. We found that opaque materials are the best at forming shadows. We then made our shadow puppets from black card and practiced and performed some well known fables like “The Hare and the Tortoise”. Take a look at the photos of our show.

Year 3 Roman Day

We had a fantastic day on Wednesday 23rd September. To link with our topic 'Roman Life' we had an afternoon of fun activities that the Romans would have had at the baths. We dressed up in Roman togas, played a variety of board games like they would have played and carried out all different sorts of exercises - running, jumping, skipping, etc. We also had the opportunity to clean our arms using a 'strigil' which they used to scrape off dirt, and smell and taste some of the foods the Romans introduced to us. I hope you enjoy the pictures!

Barbican

On Friday, 26th June, Year 3 visited the Barbican. We had a wonderful day, and the concert was very engaging. Children were introduced to an array of different musical stringed instruments: harps; lutes and zithers. There were musical influences from different parts of the world, including India and Africa.

The children got to play their Zithers (a multiple stringed instrument) that we had made in class.

Well done Y3 - what a great day!

Riddles poem

In Year 3, we have been writing animal riddles poems.

We chose an animal, and wrote some clues to describe the animal.

Can you guess what the animal below is before reading the answer at the end of the poem? How many clues did you need?

Riddles Poem

I have sharp claws,
and I sometimes growl.

I have big jaws,
and I like to prowl.

I have a golden coat of fur,
I like to eat meat.

I am a lion!!

Sutton Hoo

In 3K, we have been looking at the Sutton Hoo burial.

We have learnt how King Redwald, who died around 625AD, was buried in a huge ship. A huge mound could be seen, as earth was piled on top of the ship.

Sutton Hoo is the place the King was buried; a place in Suffolk.

The Anglo Saxons believed in the after life, so Redwald's belongings were buried with him. The most noticeable find after an excavation of the mound, was a golden helmet, believed to be the King's.

3K Class Assembly

Thank you to the parents for coming to our class assembly.

The children worked really hard to give you a quick snapshot of what we have been learning.

Some great gymnastic sequences and descriptive writing. There was also speed stacking, and some numeracy and spanish games.

Well done 3K!

Y3 Athletics Pictures

What a week!!

It has been a really fun packed week for Year 3. For book week, we have been studying the book, 'Brother Eagle, Sister Sky'. The children have enjoyed learning about the environment, and native American Indian life; two key areas within the text.

The children listened to a storyteller this Tuesday. They were totally abosorbed, and enjoyed the experience.

On Wednesday, 10 Year 3 children travelled to Beal High school for Indoor Athletics. They had great fun, and represented the school in a positive way.

Springs

In Science, we have been learning about springs. Children have learnt that some springs can be compressed, and some springs can be extended.

When springs are being compressed or extended, they exert a push or pull force.

There are so many everyday objects that have a spring inside. We managed to find lots of different objects. Maybe you can find some objects at home that have a spring inside.

ICT Photostory

In ICT, we organised a range of different photos, to show the different stages of life (starting with a baby, and ending with an old man).

The children really enjoyed making a slide show, and this week, we added captions to the photos.

The next step will be to add sound clips.

Well done 3K. Some great slideshows!
